Julian Schnabel - The Diving Bell & The Butterfly	*	*	The masterpiece art project of the year
Sean Penn - Into The Wild	*		Great work... his best... could easily be there... the question is whether the film plays too young for Oscar voters
And...
Tim Burton - Sweeney Todd		*	We've seen work this good from him... and for whatever reason, he is never rewarded... set to be the Scorsese of 2019
Joe Wright - Atonement		*	They don't seem to want to embrace him
Jason Reitman - Juno			Makes the movie work, but in a year of mastery, just solid work... and he has many years to be honored
Ridley Scott - American Gangster		*	Masterful work... but the script got developed away from being truly great
