Roger Ebert: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" is even more fun than it sounds like. In its heedless energy and joy, it reminded me of how I felt the first time I saw "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

Detroit Free Press: Other films have taken us back to the future, but never has one pulled off the trick as vividly and imaginatively as "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow." It's another reason to believe that big-budget, high-octane entertainment is bouncing back from bankruptcy.

BBC: The film is at its best around its halfway point, mostly due to Angelina Jolie's coolly elegant cameo as Franky Cook, the leader of an all-female "amphibious squadron".

Set in 1939 New York, a reporter notices that the world's scientists are disappearing. She and a pilot track down a mad scientist to foil his plot to take over the world.
