Sex, friendship, and all other things that invade our lives.

Denys Arcand's The Barbarian Invasions is a story about the humor, hope and unspoken bonds that hold family and friends together against the onslaughts of life in our contemporary times. It's the tale of a father and son who think they have nothing left in common until-hit with a major crisis-they learn to share an insatiable appetite for life.

Interview with Denys Arcand :
"I get my best ideas in the shower and I just said aloud, what if Remy had cancer? Once I had that tiny, little idea, I could see the whole thing. It was the easiest script for me to write. It's like that terrible thing they say about it writing itself."

Review: I don’t mind movies that challenge viewers to do the work, to suss out the subtext. Not here. The pieces are there. A little emotional aggression from a dying guy who hangs out with two of his lovers and his wife, all of whom freely discuss his oral needs. Still… no bang, all buck. Eh?
