American Zoetrope comes around to self-releasing Tetro

littlefrancis567.jpgA website for Francis Coppola's self-financed, self-distributed Tetro debuted yesterday, with promises of more supplemental material before its June 11 limited release. There's no trailer yet, so the hint that black-and-white stills and black-and-white posters offer of a monochrome film isn't confirmed yet. But there is a two minute video with Coppola giving a glimpse of his Napa Valley office and making himself breathless from setting up the story while holding his video camera above his head as if taking a picture for a MySpace profile and spinning around in his desk chair. The arte povera quality of the gesture is oddly charming. It's not over until the fat little 8-year-old girl in Ohio sings. [The Tetro website. The press release is below.]

tetro-ology.jpgTETRO is Francis Ford Coppola’s first original screenplay since THE CONVERSATION. It is his most personal film yet, stemming from his own memories. It is the bittersweet story of two brothers, of family lost and found, and the conflicts and tragedies within a highly creative Argentine-Italian family. “Our families form the basis of our original view of life—I think most people are caught up in issues, experiences and memories of their families—I am no exception,” says Coppola. “Even though this is a fictional story, I used what I know best, my life”.

Vincent Gallo (Buffalo 66, The Brown Bunny) stars as the title character in "TETRO." The international cast also stars Maribel Verdú (Y Tu Mama También, Pan’s Labyrinth, Blind Sunflowers),Oscar® nominee Klaus Maria Brandauer (Mephisto, Out of Africa), Carmen Maura (Volver, Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), and introduces Alden Ehrenreich as Bennie--a young man searching for his older brother in a story set in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The film’s official website, www.tetro.com, launched today. New content will be added weekly and will include interviews with Francis Ford Coppola and the cast, behind the scenes footage, stills, cast bios and the trailer.

TETRO opens in limited release June 11 and is distributed by American Zoetrope Releasing.
