  1. Daniella Isaccs says:

Well, I hate to say it, but I’m kind of wishing the “Oscars so White” protest hadn’t happened last year. It takes three times for something to be a pattern (“Once is happenstance; twice, coincidence; three times is enemy action, Mr. Bond”), and two years without black nominees was probably a bit of a fluke. Now, sadly enough, the acclaim that all these worthy performances and films are going to get will be dismissed by the haters as little more than political correctness and a desire to fend off controversy. At least the drought is over.

  2. Elisabeth Faust says:

Daniella Isaccs, what about Asian American and Hispanic American actors and filmmakers?

  3. You have Greta Gerwig listed for the wrong movie. (Jackie instead of 20th Century Women).

  4. Daniella Isaccs says:

Most of the discussion last year (that I heard, anyway) and the year before was focused on black films/actors. This (and it’s not just Asian American or Hispanic American it’s all races–and why does it matter if they’re American?) is actually a discussion that needs to be had. Attacking Oscar was always somewhat wrongheaded. They can’t vote for films that aren’t being produced.

  5. Ellen says:

Re: the Globes so white article, it seems to me you are saying that we should not vote for a white person anymore, even if we think this person gave the best performance. We should start voting only for people of color.

This is getting out of hand.
