  1. Helen says:

American Hustle is a horrible film overrated and overacted. Before Midnight, Blue Jasmine and 12 Years a Slave are so much better.

  2. Daniella Isaacs says:

I just saw AMERICAN HUSTLE and loved it. It’s broad, but so are the films of Fellini, Preston Sturges, Almodovar…

  3. movielocke says:

American Hustle is brilliant, like Billy Wilder and IAL Diamond wrote and directed the Sting, so much fun, surprisingly witty and deep as well.

  5. Pj says:

The guy putting Hustle in 5th is living in a dream world.

  6. movielocke says:

I feel like Philomena is definitely out. the other contenders in that top 13 can muster the #1 votes necessary to secure a nomination, but Philomena is Harvey’s classic strategy of mining number 3 and 4 votes. Like Chocolat or any other minormax (faux)art films of Harvey no one really loves them, but they like it. I just don’t see Philomena mustering the love the other twelve contenders can put out (or even some not on the list). If we didn’t have the new BP rules in place, Philomena would be an extremely strong candidate to vomit herself into the top five, but with the new rules, she probably can’t even manage to get herself in the top nine, which is excellent.

  7. JOSHUA says:

@ DP, don’t you think its strange that you are the only guru to leave “her” out of your top 9, one of the only 5 to leave Jonze out of your top 6 directors, yet you’re the only one to mention Joaquin Phoenix? Is that just a “no guts, no glory” mention?

  8. Sam E. says:

@movielocke I don’t think you’re wrong but it’s so hard for me to say definitively any film that is campaigning is out when there’s up to ten films being nominated. It seems every year there’s been at least one movie no one thought would get nominated that sneaks in.
