Gurus o’ Gold – What Would The Oscars Look Like As Of Today?

There still may be some changes. Just adding in the last few late votes, for instance, pushed Melissa Leo back into the top Gurus slot in Supporting Actress.

But if The Gurus are right, just 3 days before balloting closes, the scoresheet the next morning will look like this…

The King’s Speech – 4 Oscars – Picture, Actor, Original Screenplay, Score
Inception – 4 Oscars – Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Art Direction
The Social Network – 3 Oscars – Director, Adapted Screenplay, Editing
The Fighter – 2 Oscars – Supp Actor, Supp Actress
Toy Story 3 – 2 Oscars- Song, Animated Feature

And getting 1 Oscar each….

Black Swan – Actress
Inside Job – Documentary
In A Better World – Foreign Language
The Wolfman – Make-Up
Day & Night – Animated Short
Wish 143 – Live Action Short
Alice In Wonderland – Costume
True Grit – Cinematography

And with half an Oscar each (the Gurus have them tied for the lead)…

Strangers No More/The Warriors of Qiuang – Short Doc

    I hope you’re wrong ! :)

Most of these picks will be on the money. However I believe “Art Direction” is between The King’s Speech and Alice in Wonderland.

    Will see on February 27…..

I’m pretty sure The King’s Speech will win more than four Oscars (much to my dismay).

I for my part think that there are actually the following scenarios possible. #1: Just before the final award is being handed out there might be a tie between “The King’s Speech” and “The Social Network” (plus, well, maybe “Inception”) with 4 awards each (remember 2005/2001). In that case TKS wouldn’t necessarily be the definite winner. A late upset is still realistic (also remember 2006). #2: TKS sweeps the “Oscars” with 7 satuettes or more with TSN receiving 3 awards or even less. Or #3: Something completely different. Something I would have never ever thought about. Well, you never know until you know, right?

The Social Network could still pull off a dark horse upset for Picture, keeping in mind that Fincher is most likely to be handed Director. Colin Firth will handily take home Best Actor, but I don’t know. I have a feeling that just because “Speech” has more nominations, doesn’t mean that it will win in the major categories.

It has the DGA, PGA, and SAG behind it, which are major indicators of Oscar Gold, and it does seem to be the popular actor’s movie, but “Network” still possesses an edgy modern acclaim that voters could still decide to vote for.

Either way, if the Academy Awards mean anything at all about great films, then “The Social Network” will win. You shouldn’t count it out just yet.
