Shhh…. Do You Hear The Turkeys?
Thanksgiving has arrived quickly this year… not sure why. Maybe it was the beach weather we were still having into late October around here. Yet, Toronto seems like eons ago already.
The only extremely active people in town seem to be the UPS and FedEx men and women, who are just getting the loads of DVDs to deliver. (One actually said to me today, “It didn’t really get going until last week,” as he delivered a pile of high quality screeners today.)
There is something lovely about the slow down. True, I have “work screenings” on both Friday and Saturday of this week. But screenings are the fun and easy part, even more so if the movies don’t suck. In fact, after this weekend, only Avatar will be left to be screened… and the junketeers will see it on the 9th and 10th while we non-junketeers will see it a few days later. (There is already an issue cropping up with some critics groups who will not get to see the film before their planned voting dates… do they disregard the film or wait?)
Anyway… I am happy for the breathing room… gobble gobble…

I’m surprised Disney is holding “Princess and The Frog” this close, especially given the improved buzz. If “Brothers” and “Ninja Assasin” have broken by this point, why not “Frog?” Limited release or not, Fantasic Fox was review well earlier. “Bolt,” last year’s winter Disney-animated effort was covered snout to tail by this time. What gives?
I just noticed today that the IMAX theater near me is selling tickets for Avatar already, so I emailed a bunch of friends to organize an opening night trip. The second trailer didn’t do a whole lot for me, but… I can’t help it, I’m getting excited.
So none of the newly screened movies are altering the race. And Avatar is the wild card.
My email from Fox today says “Details of the AVATAR media preview will be forthcoming.” so I have no idea what they’re doing with it here.
I’m only going to say this one time and then I’ll shut up about it, and maybe it doesn’t matter because you’re the dad and not the mom but enjoy your slow days and your busy days because it is all about to change dramatically. In a good way. In an exhausting way.
The “Avatar” press screening in Cleveland is being held on Thursday the 10th.
I can’t believe that I’ll be seeing it before you, Dave.
…especially since we don’t get a peek at “Lovely Bones” until next Tuesday, and there’s still no word yet on screenings for “Nine,” “Sherlock Holmes” or “It’s Complicated.” (No press screenings for “Princess and the Frog” here. They’re just doing a promo on Saturday morning the 5th.)
I’m guessing those are the remaining big studio (or “sort of big studio” in the case of Weinstein) “half-a-chance” awards hopefuls.
Oops! I forgot about “Invictus.”
No Cleveburg press screenings for that one either. Just an evening promotional on the 8th.
Hopefully Warners will send out a screener before then.
What Sashastone said. Trust me: The time will come soon when you feel like you’re a participant in a sleep-deprivation experiment. Even now, I still smile whenever I hear the song “Mandolin Rain” — because it seemed like that music video was on VH-1 every single time it was my turn for the middle-of-the-night bottle feeding.
Has anyone seen the clip from Avatar floating around now? Ugh, a giant cartoon rhino chases a cartoon kitty. What the fuck, man?
Am I the only person here who has seen The Deadly Spawn?
Hey, Perm — I just found up that Avatar really is based on an Edgar Rice Burroughs story. Who knew? (Or am I the last to know?)

HA HA HA The Asylum! Those fuckers are the WORST. They couldn’t make an entertaining movie by accident. Once I was asked to do some work for them. No thanks, I’m low class but I’m not THAT low class.
is NBR going to see something from Avatar? they announce on Dec 3rd
