  1. DAMMIT! That’s a bigger cock tease than that Kim Kardashian sex tape. I can’t drive to Sacramento on the 29th for a MIDNIGHT show. Arghhh…the suspense os killing me!

  2. movieman says:

Somehow I don’t see “TWBB” as a midnight movie. The length alone (160 minutes) sort of prohibits that kind of thing anyway, doesn’t it?
I hope that PV isn’t trying to position it as even more of a niche film than it already is.

  3. lazarus says:

I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but how is Daniel Day-Lewis not the frontrunner for Best Actor? He’s virtually sweeping the critics awards, and I can’t remember when someone with that much dominance wasn’t eventually the winner with Oscar. I guess you can look at Julianne Moore, but Far From Heaven didn’t get the overall noms that Blood is likely to, and I think the Academy was much more desperate to crown Nicole Kidman than they are to do the same with Johnny Depp. Kidman’s work was also much more in line with what wins than Depp’s portrayal.
If Clooney wins SAG and/or the Globe, then maybe things are murkier, but I’d say he’s a longshot for Oscar because he just won recently. So it’s still essentially a 2-horse race. But I don’t know if what Depp has done is going to appear all that fearless or accomplished next to DDL. It’s not like Depp was a revelation as a singer or dancer like what we saw with Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago, or that he showed a new side of his acting abilities. It’s just an obvious, fitting match between actor and character, director and material.

  4. Joe Leydon says:

    Damn! Not in Houston!

  5. SJRubinstein says:

I’ve watched the movie a few times now and have to say, the promo is a little more Lynchian than the film, of course, but it made me think of the movie in Lynch-terms and wow, maybe “Lynchian” is somewhat of an appropriate way to talk about some of the more surreal moments of the pic.
I loved it, loved it, loved it – but think it’s one of those movies that I’ll see 100 times and come away with a totally different opinion of each time.
Which, of course, is just the best kind of movie.

  6. White Label says:

Well, I just got my invite to a normal hours sneak, so I won’t be doing this now. But, it’s weird that they’re promoting the sneak, but don’t have any way of identifying which theater.

  7. When does this movie come out, anyway? I thought it came out Boxing Day.
“I guess you can look at Julianne Moore, but Far From Heaven didn’t get the overall noms that Blood is likely to,”
Far From Heaven got five nominations, which seems like a likely number for TWBB too unless the Academy loooves it.

“Two hours in the labyrinth of Paramount’s Avarice…. It was my first–and my last–IMAX venture. Haven’t been to a 3-D movie in years, and it’s bye-bye to THAT scathing visual transgression for the remainder of MY lifetime… It was an unceasing, unrelenting, take-no-audience-prisoners audial and visual back-alley mugging for two hours… I have been beaten up many times; I know what it feels like: this was a two-hour assault. I weep, as Jesus wept, for the generations that will grow up thinking this is what it means to “go to the movies.” I am near-on 79, and I [understand] that this is a generational opinion, but I do not think any sensible person not of a tot age where videogame… overkill is pro forma, could confuse the IMAX “experience” with a Saturday matinee outing. The term “author” as regards Summer Blockbuster movies, is not only moot, it is Urdu. Mountains heave mightily, and give birth to volcanic ant-hills.”

“One of the things I wish I could do in my life would be to watch this film through somebody else’s eyes. I just can’t. I still see it as just a giant mess, and other people are seeing that it has a shape. That’s really exciting, because I still have a hard time seeing it clearly.”
