Anyone? Anyone?
As far as I can tell, for the first time in memory, the Cannes closing night awards are not scheduled to be televised anywhere in America. Anyone know different?

God Save The NFB! “@GuyLodge: @raypride @tednope And Venice, pre-Toronto!” STORIES WE TELL in 35mm
My trade reviewer wish for the #Cannes festival is that someone give Scott Foundas a quaalude and Todd McCarthy some speed.
RT @raypride: How it premiered at Toronto fest, too “@TedNope: one of the nicest 35mm prints I've seen recently in NY was a new print of ST…
DP: Omar is probably my #Cannes favorite so far. Hany Abu-Assad is a great filmmaker who deals w/ heavy politics w/ humanity and not polemics
DP: @chutry I don’t quite mind the speed so much as the bravado of KNOWING and dismissing. Loving is ok, if it feels real
“One of the things I wish I could do in my life would be to watch this film through somebody else’s eyes. I just can’t. I still see it as just a giant mess, and other people are seeing that it has a shape. That’s really exciting, because I still have a hard time seeing it clearly.”
~ Sarah Polley’s Greatest Wish About Stories We Tell
“Anyway, Hitchcock eventually saw a rough cut of High Anxiety. He enjoyed it. But he said nothing after it. He just left. I [thought he] wasn’t happy. The next day, about 11 o’clock in the morning, I get this enormous, beautiful case of Chateau Haut-Brion 1961. That was almost 20 years old [at the time]. I mean, it was priceless. And there were magnums six of them, in a wooden case. Haut-Brion. I mean, oh my God. I’ve still got three of them left waiting. I keep all the good wines.”
What kind of occasion is worthy? When will you know it’s time to go into number four?
“A real, real occasion. I won’t drink it just because it’s a family occasion. I’ll drink it with guys that know what a good wine is and care about, you know, exquisite wines. I have a couple of friends that know what a good wine is.”
~ Mel Brooks, Foodie

They were televised before? Where?

Thye’ve been on IFC for years… think they moved to Bravo one year… live with Annette Insdorff and Roger Ebert…
So, they’re not on IFC this weekend? Why wouldn’t IFC broadcast the ceremony?
I think ESPN dropped them because poker was drawing better ratings. Oh, wait, that’s hockey. Never mind. My bad.
This is the type of event that hardly anyone, even passionate film lovers, cares about. But they should always be able to find a home on a cable station. Like Sundance or IFC.
Why would you take the time to watch a televised awards event for a bunch of movies you haven’t yet had the chance to see? Where’s the suspense?
The suspense is: what will Zhang Ziyi and Monica Bellucci wear to the awards ceremony, and will there be any opportunities for Sophia Coppola to start crying?
“will there be any opportunities for Sophia Coppola to start crying?”
Maybe when she’s presented with the “Delayed Sophomore Slump Award”?
I always watched the Cannes Closing “Festivities.” It’s fun. Especially when Tarantino was the jury head…emphasis on head. That guy has a huge noggin’….”it’s like an orange on a toothpick….”
mmmm…ZZ and Bellucci. Did WKW get to choose his jury? Because those are the kind of choices i can respect in an auteur.
I’m still shocked from finding out the other day that you guys all miss the tv event of the year in the form of Eurovision. How can y’all live knowing you’re missing out on Eurovision? I’d die if I couldn’t get my yearly fix of bad music, bad fashion, bad hosting and bad voting.
I think they may be webcast on the IFC website on Sunday…
