Friday Frivolity

Okay… silly one…
Who is the hottest woman in the movies today?
Who is the hottest man?
Who is the hot name most likely to be utterly forgotten by 2007?

  1. Luckyrooster says:

You answered your own question Dave.
    Plain silly.

  2. Rory says:

Nothing wrong with silliness on an otherwise serious blog. Here goes my opinions on these questions.
    a) Jessica Alba
    b) If it were 2003 and he had not had a face-lift. You would have had to gone with Pitt. Ewan McGregor or Christian Bale in a Velvet Goldmine tie.
    c) Racheal McAdams (of course, we no longer live in a media world. Where a talent can just up an vanish totally.)

  3. jeffmcm says:

I would swap those two female names.

  4. As always, my answer remains the same:
    Jennifer Connelly

  5. Rory says:

    Weinberg, a very solid choice.
jeff, let us put this in the most blunt of terms. In one corner, you have one of the few latina movie stars. She also, does not come across as a diva, and no one has ever stated differently. Then, in the other corner, we have a woman with a lead role in Mean Girls. Yet, she’s the farthest back in the poster, and in Wedding Crashers Isla Whomever has stolen all of her glory from that film. Also, a total diva to work with it, and she has a BAD similarity to Mena Savari.
Looking at all of those factors. It appears you might want to reverse those names jeff. But the market might be against you on this occassion. I hope McAdams enjoys doing plays.

  6. nudel says:

    speaking as a woman:
    –Angelina Jolie
–do I have to pick one? Keanu, Ewan, ..and Anakin (Hayden–not so much)
    –Paris Hilton (I hope!)

  7. KamikazeCamel says:

The latina angle is very interesting. Will she hang around purely for political correctness? I think Rachel McAdams is here to stay for a while – she needs to do a Lindsay Lohan and start making serious films because we KNOW she has true talent.
    Anyway.
    a) Hottest Female… It’s a close call between Beyonce and Zhang Ziyi. But, I’m gay so it’s essentially a moot point
    b) Hottest Male… Definitely a tie between my two favourite men: Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. Put them in a room together and I’m fairly certain I would implode. Also, Chris Evans can fill the “omg he’s SO hot” spot of teenage girls
    c) I think 2007 is a very big ask for anybody of today to be completely forgotten about, especially with Rory said. Although Diane Kruger sure has vanished fast! I’d like to say Kate Hudson (although she’ll probably remain for as long as Goldie does). So… let’s say Asia Argento. I’m forgetting her already…
And Rory, it’s Isla Fisher, it’s so good to see her finally getting somewhere!

  8. KamikazeCamel says:

Oh, i have a different answer for c!
The entire cast of March of the Penguins!

  9. randall says:

Jessica Alba’s lack of any acting talent and constant blank stare lowers her hotness considerably, as far as I’m concerned. Granted, her ass is hot enough to keep her alive well past 2007.
I hope Rachel McAdams stays around. I’ve only seen her in Wedding Crashers but she has undeniable talent. Aside from being really hot.

  10. bicycle bob says:

don’t u know by now that dave loves these types of gossipy stuff?
    jessica alba. hands down.

  11. schlockweister says:

I too have to go with Jennifer Connelly, though I miss the voluptuous figure she had earlier in her car. Ever see “The Rocketeer.”
Scarlett Johannsen is a close second. . .totally depressed there were no booby shots in “The Island.”
I’m not so sure how valid my opinion on the men is as a heterosexual, but if I was looking to switch teams I’d give George Clooney a call.

  12. Josh says:

Jennifer Connelly is almost 40. Just for that she can’t be considered hot. Especially by anyone under 35.
Lindsay Lohan will keep getting better and will be the biggest female star by 2007.

  13. BluStealer says:

You don’t see too many hot men disappear even after a few bad movies. If that were the case we would never have seen Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp last til they are 40. They get more chances.
    Women don’t get any.

  14. Bruce says:

There is always a new crop of hot young actresses ready to pounce. The talent pool is deeper. Which is nice for us men out there.

  15. Lota says:

gonna get reprimanded if I’m late with my project…but one must do silly things sometimes:
    Angelina Jolie
Javier Bardem or Julio Medem [come to Mama!]
hot names I hope will be forgotten (likely in vain):
Jake Gyllenhaal, Jonathan rhys-meyers, Jessica Simpson

  16. LesterFreed says:

I’ll have to see Dukes of Hazzard before I say Simpson will be a big star in two years. She may have no chops at all.
Scarlett Johansson will continue to improve and get bigger.

  17. bicycle bob says:

i don’t know if scarlet is hot enough to really break through and become an a list star. she has the acting talent but it takes more. let me see her do a good romantic comedy first.

  18. Dark Dirk says:

    1. Now – Charlize Theron … in three years: Samaire Armstrong (IF she stops doin these crappy movies)
    2. I’m straight so I really don’t care, but what aboot Ryan Reynolds?
    3. Jennifer Aniston

  19. bicycle bob says:

samaire armstrong is anothe rone whos just not hot enough to be a star. thats why she is the #2 girl on these sitcoms like entourage and the oc and playing second banana to lohan in movies.

  20. ZacharyTF says:

    1) Charlize Theron hands down, or is that one hand down? :)
    2) I’m straight, but if I had to venture an answer, it would probably be Orlando Bloom
    3) Paris Hilton.

  21. bicycle bob says:

way too many guys here professing they are straight. its ok to think a guy is good looking and is a star without u being gay u know.

  22. KamikazeCamel says:

    Thank you Bob.
It seems though that Brad Pitt is finally losing his lustre. Has there ever been a more overpraised actor… er, in the looks department I mean.
I say David does more fun stuff like this and less boring stuff like the inner workings of nobody journos at half-bit newspapers.
Lota, why you not a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal? He seems talented enough. And also, apparently Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is relavatory in Match Point.

  23. Lota says:

Kamikaze I can’t be on the internet today so don’t talk to me…it’s your fault if I get in trouble for project delays.
It isn’t their fault some people just annoy the F out of me, esp people who look like they spend 6 h/day in front of a mirror etc.
I like Pitt. he’s natural. he doesn’t have dark hair (a minus) but he still looks nice. The other nice looking blond is/was Bill Pullman. He was very hot in Spaceballs. Denzel is hot too at any age.
lots od dead stars who are hot too but we won’t go there

  24. Kernan says:

Jessica Alba is the hottest! No Question and Jennifer Lopez is the forgotten. That just might be wishful thinking

  25. Brett says:

Elaine: “You know that just admitting a man is handsome doesn’t necessarily make you a homosexual.”
    George: “It doesn’t help”

  26. oldman says:

Kiddies; Jennifer Connelly is too old to be hot?! Put me on a desert island with JC, Diane Lane, and Terry Hatcher; DON’T send a rescue ship! PS You can have Paris Hilton

  27. Clay says:

    1. Jessica Alba is physically the hottest, but I agree that she’s a charisma void talent-wise. Give me NAOMI WATTS for the whole package.
    2. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are my guy crushes.
    3. I’m guessing Alba will fade fast.
Bonus: I think, and hope, Rachel McAdams will stick around. She’s beautiful and very talented.

  28. jesse says:

Nicole Kidman is probably the most beautiful (even with the slight appearance modifications); she keeps finding new ways to look great. But for pure, dumb hotness, Jessica Alba is a good choice. I second whoever (as if this was just one person) mentioned how amazing her ass is. For a mix of hot and beautiful, Natalie Portman or Kirsten Dunst.
Ewan McGregor would be my choice for guys… but that’s probably strongly influenced by the fact that he’s charming and a great actor. I actually think Pitt is far from underrated in the looks department; he really is a fine-looking guy, much moreso than the overly pretty Orlando Bloom.
I think Rachel McAdams (who is also up there, hotness-wise) will hang in there. Hmmm. Jessica Biel isn’t looking very likely as a long-term prospect. Is Paul Walker gone yet? He may have another year or two.

  29. Goulet says:

Who is the hottest woman in the movies today? ALEXIS BLEDEL
Who is the hottest man? WILL FERRELL
Who is the hot name most likely to be utterly forgotten by 2007? DAKOTA FANNING

  30. TheBrotherhoodOfTheLostSkeletonOfCadavra says:

    1. Maggie Cheung
    2. George Clooney
    3. Jennifer Garner

  31. Joe E says:

    A) I saw Jennifer Connelly in person once. She did a Q & A after a screening of “House of Sand and Fog” and she’s the hottest thing I’ve ever seen. I was panting. BUT…anyone who’s seen Layer Cake can not deny the hotness of Sienna Miller. My God!!!
    B) I’ve always thought Ewan MacGregor is an attractive man, maybe Eric Bana.
    C) And since her and Jude Law broke up I don’t think Sienna Miller will be around in two years, or certainly won’t be a name.

  32. Mad Monk says:

Make that two votes for Maggie Cheung! She replaced Brigitte Lin for me when Brigitte retired.
I used to have Jude Law on my list but he started losing his lustre about the time I had to sit through ALFIE.

  33. Panda Bear says:

Alexis Biedel? Are we looking at the same girl? Apparently not.
    Sienna Miller. Hot.

  34. RP says:

Poland asked: Who is the hottest woman in the movies today? >>>
Monica Bellucci, Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Connelly, Jennifer Garner and Keira Knightley (but she needs some meals).
Poland asked: Who is the hottest man? >>>
Handsome fellas: George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Eric Bana and that guy from “Love Actually,” Rodrigo Santoro.
Poland wrote: Who is the hot name most likely to be utterly forgotten by 2007? >>>
Will Ferrell. (OK, so it’s unlikely, but he’s so over-exposed and his cameo almost torpedoes the otherwise fantastic Wedding Crashers.)

  35. jesse says:

That Ferrell cameo is one of the best scenes in Wedding Crashers. Perfectly executed and even thematically relevant! I don’t know if Ferrell will have success moving to drama, as Hanks did, or if he’ll even have the box-office comedy success of a Sandler or a Carrey, but I think he said once that the career he’d most like to emulate is Bill Murray’s. I can kinda see that. He’s broader than Murray, to be sure, but I can see him doing more serious spins on his comic persona(s) (he did the most fresh Woody Allen imitation in years in Melinda & Melinda). I guess Stiller is an appropriate comparison too, since he often verges on overexposure, does a lot of cameos, and mixes good movies with a lot of “well, I can see how that *could’ve* been good.”
Whoops, this was supposed to be about hotness. OK, Alexis Bledel is NOT attractive. She looks creepy and little-girl-ish.

  36. Bruce says:

Will F is way too funny to ever be forgotten. Especially by 2007. You may dislike him but the man is funny as heck.

  37. Cryptic Ned says:

    1. Naomi Watts
    2. Whoever the lead actor in “Land of the Dead” was.
    3. Jack Black. I thought he was cool about six months before everyone else did, and I got tired of him quite recently…perhaps I am a harbinger for others? I really think he’s a one-trick pony and that King Kong will be a disaster for his career. People didn’t think Chevy Chase would ever go out of fashion either.

  38. Cryptic Ned says:

I think Alexis Bledel is attractive. Her head is too large for her body, but I think the creepy little girlish quality is a result of the insipid movie roles she’s had. In “Gilmore girls” she’s much more quick-witted.

  39. Bruce says:

She won’t have a career after this Gilmore show is over. Maybe a sitcom. She isn’t big screen pretty enough to carry anything.

  40. LesterFreed says:

How can you say some actor in some movie is going to be a star when you don’t even know his name (Simon Baker) and don’t even realize hes been around for ten years? Weird.

  41. Struggles McGee says:

    1. Scarlett Johansson
    2. Nikolai Lie Kaas
    3. Jennifer Garner is a good one…unless she can be an action hero on TV for 10 more years.

  42. Cryptic Ned says:

How can you say some actor in some movie is going to be a star when you don’t even know his name (Simon Baker) and don’t even realize hes been around for ten years? Weird.
I didn’t say he was going to be a star, I thought they were asking for the hottest (most attractive) actor.

  43. LesterFreed says:

If you want to check him out then go right alead Ned. Don’t let a silly man like me stop you.

  44. bicycle bob says:

the hottest actor is still sean connery.

  45. lazarus says:

Let’s not forget that Poland said “hot” not beautiful. So I think we’re talking big-time sex appeal here. In my mind, there’s still no one that tops the list more than Angelina Jolie. Not my personal fav, but come on. She turns on an equal number of men AND women. She’s miles ahead of the others.
And I’m going to have to go with Brad Pitt as well. Make fun of the guy all you want but he’s not a freak like Cruise, and despite the new bleach blond do, doesn’t try too hard to not look his age. Still the coolest cat around, and was able to sell Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
Gone in 2 years? So many people it will be hard to pick one. Hopefully Jon Heder.

  46. Joe E says:

I think Ferrell will be around in two years, but I agree that is his cameo in Wedding Crashers was not funny. Why? Because WE KNEW HE’D MAKE A CAMEO. I walked in the theater knowing I’d see a combo of Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson or Will Ferrell in some small role somewhere. The Frat Pack shctick is getting old on me. Then again, I’m not a 15 year old.

  47. Clay says:

Ferrell’s Wedding Crashers scene was a disaster. Any other actor would have been better in that role. Imagine what Bill Murray could have done with it.

  48. Josh says:

We got a lot of posters who would dance on the grave of a performer. Will Ferrell is a comic genuis. And if you think he won’t be around 10 yrs from now you’re nuts.

  49. Cryptic Ned says:

Or an actual non-comedian actor. From the reviews I thought the “guest star cameo” was going to be a grizzled veteran, a legend of the wedding crashing world. I was picturing Philip Baker Hall or somebody. THAT would be funny.

  50. Lynnie says:

Women — I think Michelle Yeoh is beautiful.
Men — Hmm. There are so many. It would be hard for me to choose between Eric Bana and Christian Bale. I like tall, manly men types, so Clive Owen would be at the top of my list, too. Sean Bean is still there after 15+ years. :) Jury is still out on Orlando Bloom, though he looked much more grown-up in KoH than I’ve seen previously.
Over — Lindsey Lohan. Please, let it be so.

  51. Bruce says:

It was a cameo in a really funny movie. I don’t think it made or broke the film. I thought he was hilarious in his scene. Comedy is like that. Subjective.

  52. jeffmcm says:

Jessica Alba is no more latina than Cameron Diaz. And even though she’ll be in Fantastic Four 2 by 2007 or so, she’s way too blank-faced to have a lot of staying power.

  53. BluStealer says:

Jessica Alba if she is one thing, its hot. The girl is gorgeous.

  54. Bruce says:

The thing about Lohan is I think she has great talent. And great talent always keeps you hanging around. No matter how messed up and weird your personal life is.

  55. patrick says:

    Woman: Hilary Swank
    Man: Russel Crowe
    Over: Katie Holmes

  56. Sanchez says:

Hilary Swank is better looking when she acts like a man than as a woman.

  57. Mark says:

The hottest actress in Hollywood right now is Jessica Simpson. She’s also one who will be on crappy tv in 2 years.

  58. Geoff says:

There is no way that I can be the first to name Rosario Dawson! She is a WOMAN in a Hollywood world overrun by little girls name Jessica. You give her the Katie Holmes role in Batman Begins and you have a near perfect film.
As for men, well, I would have to say that the best looking man would probably have to be Taye Diggs. My wife has a huge crush on him and I hate to admit that I can see why.
As for actress that will disappear by 2007, take your pick. But Lindsy Lohan would be a good start. She’ll be posing nude for Playboy by then to restart her career.

  59. Mark says:

We talking hot or stars? Because they’re a million good looking women in Hollywood. Not many are stars.

  60. Angelus21 says:

Orlando Bloom is very hot. I think it easier to predict what men will still be around 5 years from now than women. Look at Britney Spears. She fell off a cliff in one year. 1!

  61. nostromo says:

I’m assuming “hot” means physically appealing.
    1. Angelina Jolie
    2. Antonio Banderas
    3. (tie) Jennifer Love Hewitt/Tara Reid. Both are on the skids now. By 2007, even Maxim, Stuff and FHM won’t want them.

  62. joefitz84 says:

Don’t doubt Tara Reid. She knows her place. She is now the host of E’s Wild On. Can you think of a more perfect person?

  63. Joe E says:

I wrote Jennifer Connelly as hottest right now, but after seeing Diane Lane do all these interviews, I don’t know. DAMN! She’s forty years old and just as fine as she’s ever been.
I’m surprised Salma Hayek hasn’t popped up here yet. Granted, she’s been hot for about ten years now.

  64. joefitz84 says:

40 yr old women can be good looking and even beautiful but not hot.

  65. jeffmcm says:

Jessica Simpson is already on crappy TV, let alone 2 years from now.
Tara Reid hosting “Wild On” is proof that she is indeed over.

  66. joefitz84 says:

Wild On is a great show. You should watch it sometime to appreciate it before you put it down, buddy.

  67. Clay says:

“Jessica Alba is no more latina than Cameron Diaz.”
What the hell does that mean??? Cameron Diaz is Cuban. If you mean she doesn’t have the typical look associated with “Latina women” fine, but she is a Latina.
Alba, though, is a mix of several ethnicities.

  68. JJ says:

Laura Harris…that’s a face I could wake up to every morning.

  69. Tim G. says:

Out of curiosity, and because I’m a huge fan of her, can anyone comment on Scarlett Johansson? A couple users have mentioned her lack of “star” talent, but as I’m not (yet) well-versed in Hollywood vernacular, I’m wondering why the excludes her.
This isn’t fan-based whining, just wondering about her staying power and criterion for “hotness”. Personally, give me her over Alba any day of the week…

  70. sky_capitan says:

Ummm, I can’t pick just one… all are equally hot:
carla gugino (sin city!!), naomi watts, elisha cuthbert, mandy moore, zhang ziyi, jessica biel, eva mendes (!), alexis bledel, jessica alba, christina milian, natalie portman, diane lane, halle berry, scarlett j, jennifer connelly, angelina jolie, charlize theron, rachael mcadams
    doomed by 30 or sooner:
    jessica simpson, jessica alba

  71. jeffmcm says:

Alba and Diaz both have fathers of Cuban/Mexican ancestry and mothers of European ancestry, so they’re each only half Latin/Hispanic, unlike your Lopezes.
I only bring it up because somebody mentioned Alba as ‘one of the few latina movie stars’ as a reason for her being the hottest actress around, which I thought was silly.

  72. RP says:

Sh*t, I forgot Kate Winslet at the top of my “hot women” list. Throw Cate Blanchett on there, too. And Laura Linney as a thinking man’s babe.
Re: Will Ferrell, yeah, he’ll obviously still have a career in two years (hence the “unlikely” reference in my original post). That said, his overly broad take on every role is grating as all hell. Almost as bad as the cameo in Wedding Crashers was his poor showing in Melinda & Melinda, another nice little film made just a little less nice by his presence. The man needs to dial down a bit, for the sake of the moviegoing audience. He has *none* of the nuance of Bill Murray, to mention someone referenced in this thread. Two cents, RP

  73. jeffmcm says:

Ferrell is hilarious, but doesn’t have a lot of range. He stuck out in Melinda and he would have stuck out in Bewitched if that movie hadn’t been all over the place, in performances and in tone.

  74. Sanchez says:

He doesn’t have a lot of range? You obviously haven’t seen all his movies? See them and then talk to me, chief of the week.

  75. jeffmcm says:

Well, IMDB says he’s made 25 movies, of which I’ve seen 11. So perhaps in The Suburbans or The Thin Pink Line he plays someone other than his typically loud, over-the-top, goofy guy. You tell me, you who have seen all 25.

  76. Sanchez says:

See the 11 then. Then get back to us before you run your mouth off. That would help your cause.

  77. Stella's Boy says:

What evidence would you use to support your belief that Ferrell has range?

  78. jeffmcm says:

Ferrell basically has played variations on SNL characters through his career. I guess if you think ‘range’ means that he can play the loud, goofy villain in Zoolander as well as the loud, goofy frat guy in Old School, AND the loud goofy Bob Woodward in Dick, then perhaps that is range. I like him a lot, but Olivier he ain’t.

  79. sky_capitan says:

“I never see myself as a beautiful woman and have never traded on that to get ahead in this business”
    – Jessica Alba (a quote on ananova)
It’s amusing if that quote is accurate

  80. nick says:

I went to high school with Jennifer Connelly, and she’s a bit younger than me, so I can’t really lust for her, it feels like incest 😉
In the thread that was posted above this one, I already mentioned Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, Jessica Lange and Pam Grier. I didn’t mention Angelina Jolie, although I do think she’s spectacular, and she’s the only actor in “Sky Captain” who seemed to be in on the joke; she really ate that small part up, and was so much fun to watch as she did so. And although I loathed the movie, I thought Monica Bellucci was amazing in “Irreversible” and physically stunning beyond belief (which makes that notorious rape sequence all the harder to deal with, though a braver performance I don’t know if I’ve ever seen).
As for guys, Brad Pitt is always the easy answer, but I do think he’s pretty remarkable looking; I also have a soft spot for Colin Farrell. In the latter case in particular, this might have something to do with the idea that he’d just be a hilarious guy to sit down with and knock down a brew. Though I get the same sense impression off Dennis Franz, and few if any would characterize him as “hot,” but then all of us have different wiring and for different reasons …

“I remember very much the iconography and the images and the statues in church were very emotional for me. Just the power of that, and even still — just seeing prayer card, what that image can evoke. I have a lot of friends that are involved in the esoteric, and I know some girls in New York that are also into the supernatural. I don’t feel that I have that gift. But I am leaning towards mysticism… Maybe men are more practical, maybe they don’t give into that as much… And then also, they don’t convene in the same way that women do. But I don’t know, I am not a man, I don’t want to speak for men. For me, I tend to gravitate towards people who are open to those kinds of things. And the idea for my film, White Echo, I guess stemmed from that — I find that the girls in New York are more credible. What is it about the way that they communicate their ideas with the supernatural that I find more credible? And that is where it began. All the characters are also based on friends of mine. I worked with Refinery29 on that film, and found that they really invest in you which is so rare in this industry.”

“The word I have fallen in love with lately is ‘Hellenic.’ Greek in its mythology. So while everyone is skewing towards the YouTube generation, here we are making two-and-a-half-hour movies and trying to buck the system. It’s become clear to me that we are never going to be a perfect fit with Hollywood; we will always be the renegade Texans running around trying to stir the pot. Really it’s not provocation for the sake of being provocative, but trying to make something that people fall in love with and has staying power. I think people are going to remember Dragged Across Concrete and these other movies decades from now. I do not believe that they will remember some of the stuff that big Hollywood has put out in the last couple of years. You’ve got to look at the independent space to find the movies that have been really special recently. Even though I don’t share the same world-view as some of my colleagues, I certainly respect the hell out of their movies which are way more fascinating than the stuff coming out of the studio system.”
